Dental sealants in Kyle Buda San Marcos TX

Sealants have been shown to reduce the risk of decay by nearly 80% in molars. This is especially important when it comes to your child’s dental health. In October 2016, the Centers for Disease Control released a report on the importance of sealants for school-aged children, of which only 43% of children ages 6-11 have. According to the CDC, “school-age children without sealants have almost three times more cavities than children with sealants.”

You may have many questions about sealants, and we have answers for you below. Read on to learn more about sealing out tooth decay.

How Do Sealants Work?

Think of them as raincoats for your teeth. When the cavity-causing bacteria that live in everyone’s mouth meet leftover food particles, they produce acids that can create holes in teeth. These holes are cavities. After sealant has been applied it keeps those bits of food out and stops bacteria and acid from settling on your teeth—just like a raincoat keeps you clean and dry during a storm.

Who Can Get Sealants?

Children and adults can benefit from sealants, but the earlier you get them, the better. Your first molars appear around age 6, and second molars break through around age 12. Sealing these teeth as soon as they come through can keep them cavity-free from the start, which helps save time and money in the long run. Ask us if sealants are a good option for you and your family.

How Are Sealants Applied?

It’s a quick and painless process. We will clean and dry your tooth before placing an acidic gel on your teeth. This gel roughs up your tooth surface so a strong bond will form between your tooth and the sealant. After a few seconds, we will rinse off the gel and dry your tooth once again before applying the sealant onto the grooves of your tooth. We will then use a special blue light to harden the sealant.

Can Sealants Be Placed Over Cavities?

Sealants can be used over areas of early decay to prevent further damage to your tooth. Because some sealants are clear, your dentist can keep an eye on the tooth to make sure the sealant is doing its job.

Are There Any Side Effects?

With the exception of an allergy that may exist, there are no known side effects from sealants.

Is There BPA In Sealants?

Yes, there is a tiny amount of BPA in sealants but not enough to cause you or a loved one any harm. In fact, you get more exposure to BPA by simply touching a receipt, using cosmetics or coming in contact with dust.

How Long Do Sealants Last?

Sealants will often last for several years before they need to be reapplied. During your regular dental visit, we will check the condition of the sealant and can reapply them as needed.

Are Sealants Covered By Dental Plans?

Some plans do cover sealants, so call your dental benefit company to find out what kind of coverage you have.

  • Recently established new insurance and was in the process of getting a problem wisdom tooth taken out when my previous dentist office denied my new insurance. In excruciating pain I walked in and I was treated with the utmost respect and care. I was assessed and requested immediate removal of the tooth, which they did. The tooth showed to need additional time to take out but the dentist managed to pull the tooth out with no issue at all and extremely quickly. I will be pulling my kids from the pediatric dentist office they are at now and having my entire family attend Kyle Parkway Dentistry.

  • I posted the review below about 5-6 days ago. And I stand corrected. They quickly addressed my issue and mailed me a check. Thank you for that. This speaks volumes for you to go back and do this. I greatly appreciate that you took the time out to do this.

The staff was great and sweet back a few years ago when I went. The only issue I had was with the financial check out person. I have private dental insurance through my employer. My insurance had covered my visit 100% that day. I needed a lot of future work done so they made a three visit plan and again my insurance would cover about 80-90% of total cost on the future visits. However, their accounting or financial check out person really pressured me on paying something towards my future cost ??‍♀️. I didn’t see the need for that since we still had to wait and bill my insurance in the future. Anyway long story short I felt pressured and I put some money towards my future cost. I never went back for that same reason and when asked about being reimbursed they asked for me to go back in and take my debit card used at that time to have it reimbursed. I’ve changed banks since then and didn’t feel like going through any trouble so I had to just consider it a loss and move on. So again great front staff and dental staff it was just the not so pleasant pressure of putting money towards future cost when insurance hasn’t even been billed yet or dental work hasn’t been done.

  • OK so I am one of those people that gets super nervous for the dentist— especially if I need any treatments done. I cannot say enough how much I would recommend Kyle Parkway Dentistry— I saw Dr. Z and she is AMAZING. And the dental assistant Katherine (I hope I’m spelling her name right! Also, sad she is moving! :( ) was also amazing!! The two of them made me feel instantly more calm and relaxed and made my treatment as comfortable as possible. Dr. Z talked me through everything and made me feel so relaxed. (Not to mention they got everything done pretty darn quick!) I love that she listens to my questions and answers with sympathy, kindness and knowledge— they genuinely wanted me to be as comfortable as possible, and that means everything!!! Also the front desk girls are so sweet and helpful. I recommend and will continue seeing Dr. Z! And definitely won’t be as nervous from now on :). Thank you thank you thank you!!

  • EVERYONE was friendly, helpful and professional. My examination was very detailed, and any issues were explained to me with different options of treatments. I moved here from a different state. I have been looking for a dental practice that I felt confident in the dentist and staff. I found that in Kyle Parkway Dentistry.

  • I'm welcomed every time I come in the door. Staff is very helpful and eager to satisfy the objective. Dentist and assistant work harmoniously to get the procedure accomplished as efficient and accurate as possible, with minimal discomfort to me. I congratulate the whole team for their work.
The facility is wonderful also. Very clean and well thought out. Modern computerized systems. LCD TV's on the ceiling to keep my mind off procedure..... all in all I'm very satisfied...
Only down side is limited parking due to neighboring businesses.

I've been going for treatments to this location for about 8 months now and I still feel great about everyone I come in contact with.
Thomas is the doctor who is taking care of my teeth and his attention to detail and customer care has inspired me to add to my previous post.
I feel very satisfied with the work he performed after my mouth wakes up and I can feel the results of his work.
I still have much work to be done so I know I can always return with the expectation of excellence... Thank you guys.

  • Everyone was very friendly. Dentist explained everything very well and I was relieved that they didn’t recommend things that I really don’t need at this time. Glad I chose them for my new dentist!

  • When our dentist retired after 35+ years with him, had to find a new dentist and Kyle Parkway Dentistry was recommended to me by a friend. Made an appointment with a cracked tooth on Friday for following Monday and was actually called and seen earlier, on Saturday. Office and staff was very nice and felt welcomed. Exam and cleaning was great and everything was explained in a clear way. Very warm environment and liked watching TV while laying down! I think I made a good choice!
